Lapis Lazuli the stone of self empowerment. After writing so many articles, I think it is simpler to just classify them using color.
Then I realize not everyone see colors the same, like most things we take for granted.
We come to a general agreement, but we never really know what the other person is seeing because you might be looking at the same thing and saying the same thing but its impossible to know what they really see.
If only you could look thru their eyes. Ok I should stop drinking so much coffee.
The jewel that empowered pharaohs
The deep blue is a worldwide favorite of every person who finds blue calming. Much has been said by the new age healing community about this stone. Apparently, it does everything except cook a meal. There are some very good quality ones, that are almost violet due to the color saturation of the stone.
In wiki you can find this statement:
“By the end of the Middle Ages, lapis lazuli began to be exported to Europe, where it was ground into powder and made into ultramarine, the finest and most expensive of all blue pigments. It was used by some of the most important artists of the Renaissance and Baroque, including Masaccio, Perugino, Titian and Vermeer, and was often reserved for the clothing of the central figures of their paintings, especially the Virgin Mary. Ultramarine has also been found in dental tartar of medieval nuns and scribes.”
One of the first few stones i collected. I love the deep blue saturations and pyrite banding. Makes it look like stars trapped on a blue surface. One of the most beautiful stones available. Due to its popularity, it is not a cheap stone. The best come from Afghanistan. Mined for a very very very long time in Afghanistan.
The scientific composition of this mineral, well you can google it, if that interest you. There is no other blue like it, unless you consider azurite/sodalite. They do make a good eye shadow. It was used as a blue pigment long ago. The blue is just something else.
In the Vedic astrological system. This stone ruled by Saturn. Due to its blueness and saturn supposedly rules everything blue. I personally find that the new age classifications and metaphysical attributes to stones a bit boring. If you look hard enough, they cover everything. It’s like a miracle stone.
Colors enhance our world, makes things different, from the pink flower on the green tree, to the make up your wife/girlfriend uses. It does make them look more attractive. What attracted me to the stone, was the deep hues of blue. that I couldn’t find in my daily life, specks of little pyrite and most of all it just looks calming and rich. One of the best deep blue stones in the world if you ask me, if only it was transparent.
The picture on the bottom I borrowed from the internet; the top is a sphere I have on my desk. Somehow, I think the photos don’t do them justice.
Carving lapis into new age items, like wands and chakra stones is relatively easy, these stones are a touch higher in price, if compared to agates or jasper, but not by that much, again everything in this market is about the quality. As you can tell by now the Chinese love to carve everything.
Looking at lapis the bands reminds me of planetary forming, what do you feel when you look at a stone? Does nothing for some people, but they do take me to another place, blue with white bands and specks of pyrite thrown in, like the night sky with shimmering stars.
I have no reviews from people who have bought this stone, myself included. Some feng shui ‘experts’ say it represents the water element for obvious reasons, then some new age say the water element is black, so go figure. There is something for everyone, its like the rainbow of madness.
I don’t know what healing purposes they have, but maybe that’s for you to find out. Most things fly by us because we do not pay attention to what happens, small things in life, that are triggers. I have used and collected stones for so many years. Normally there is some effect to these stones. The way they make us feel. Again to all you science peeps out there, it cannot be proven, its qualitative not quantitative.
Lapis Lazuli self empowerment
So, my approach has and is to always look at the stones as what it is, if I like the color blue and they give me a royal feel to it, I run with it. I don’t try to tag and use others as an authority, we try to appreciate things the way they are, I don’t use another authority to try to sell something that I cannot prove the basis nor the logic, maybe I am just dumb. I include Vedic astrology in most of my explanations because I have been studying it for the last 15 years, ironically almost about the same time as I started collecting.
In closing, this is the deep blue/violet that is so royal in my opinion.
Though now in the market if one is not careful, you might end up getting a man-made piece, similar in structure but it’s not the same thing, so be careful if it is too cheap. Here on my site, we only source from experienced miners/dealers that we have done business with.
